As Muslims, we believe God sends prophets to guide Humans and get them closer to God. The duties of these prophets are to obey and convey these messages to the people around them.

These prophets are close to God; only by following them can a human get true salvation. They never spoke against the will of God. God and these prophets were the same in the message. They never asked for any money, wealth, or fame. They did not ask anyone to worship them as gods/demigods or the True God.

To prove their prophethood, they performed mircales by the will of God. Each prophet was supported with a different set of mircales relevant to the place’s time and expertise.

For example during the time and place where Moses was chosen as a prophet Magic was the considered as the expertise. Moses was supported by God, making even the expert magicians realise that it was a miracle from God.

Then the Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?”“A staff,” he replied. The Lord said, “Throw it on the ground.” Moses threw it on the ground and it became a snake, and he ran from it. Then the Lord said to him, “Reach out your hand and take it by the tail.” So Moses reached out and took hold of the snake and it turned back into a staff in his hand. “This,” said the Lord, “is so that they may believe that the Lord, the God of their fathers — the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob — has appeared to you.”

— — — Old Testament Exodus 4:2–5

˹Allah added,˺ “And what is that in your right hand, O Moses?” He replied, “It is my staff! I lean on it, and with it I beat down ˹branches˺ for my sheep, and have other uses for it.” Allah said, “Throw it down, O Moses!” So he did, then — behold! — it became a serpent, slithering. Allah said, “Take it, and have no fear. We will return it to its former state. And put your hand under your armpit, it will come out ˹shining˺ white, unblemished, as another sign, so that We may show you some of Our greatest signs. Go to Pharaoh, for he has truly transgressed ˹all bounds˺.”

— — Quran Chapter 20 Taha : Verse 17–21

Some miracles were temporary and only witnessed by people of that time and place, whereas others even extended after the prophet’s death, like their prophecies.
